What Is Tahini?
Tahini is a thick paste made of hulled, ground sesame seeds.
Depending on the brand, tahini consists of raw or lightly roasted sesame seeds.
If a recipe specifically calls for sesame seed paste, it’s likely referring to Chinese sesame paste.
But unfortunately, there is no set rule where tahini is located.
Every store or chain is organized differently so tahini could be in a few places.
If the store has an international section, check it also.
Another option is the condiments and sauces section.
Smaller grocery stores may not carry tahini but you’re able to also order it online.
There are many good reasons to make this ingredient a pantry staple.
An open jar stored that way lasts for about 4 to 12 months.
However, tahini can turn rancid, and refrigeration helps it last longer about 6 to 24 months.
