If youre lucky, youve never experienced a mishap from re-heating your beverage in the microwave.
But all it takes is using the wrong mug, and the outcome could be less than ideal.

While many mugs are microwave safe, they aren’t all made to withstand the heating appliance.
Most standard mugs are made of ceramic or glass which are generally microwave-safe thanks to their heat-resistant properties.
However, if your ceramic mug contains decorative detailingespecially if its metallicits best to forgo the microwave.
However, that minor flaw can become a much bigger problem when exposed to heat.
Putting a damaged mug in the microwave can cause the nicks to expand and eventually shatter.
The heat can become trapped between the layers and result in uneven heating, ultimately leading to cracking.
The majority of insulated travel mugs contain metal parts, so theyre automatically ruled out.
Additionally, plastic will begin to melt if left to heat for too long.
Since theres no liquid to absorb the microwaves, the mug will become excessively hot and start to crack.
This not only creates a mess for you to clean up, it puts you at risk for burns.
