Here’s my approach.

This is exactly why I never make a new year’s resolution.

Instead, I makelittle resolutionsevery day, year-round, breaking big habits down to smaller ones.

It turns I have what’s called a growth mindset (who knew?

), and Dr. Heiss is a big proponent.

“There’s nothing magical about January 1st,” she says.

“It’s more productive to adopt a mindset of continual growth and change.”

So what exactly does that mean?

“It’s all about having small wins,” Heiss says.

We get ‘addicted’ to those small wins and they can add up to meeting our big goals."

“So be it.

Acknowledge that it happened, then have a keyword,” Heiss suggests.

“Mine is ‘next.’

I cant change whats in the past but I can look forward to whats next.

I get to do this again.

How can I change my behavior tomorrow so I get back to those small wins?”

“If we frame things in all-or-nothing terms.

“Making lasting change is all about small paths forward, continual change.”
