Find out how to successfully and safely install a single-pole light switch.

Proper safety precautions are essential whenever a DIYer works with electricity.

If you have afuse box, remove the associated fuse rather than flipping a breaker panel switch.

Then, run a second two-wire cable from the switch to the light fixture.

When replacing an existing light switch, remove the faceplate for better access to test the connected wires.

If the wires are not labeled, take a few minutes and apply wire labels.

Connect the New Light Switch

After removing the old light switch, start wiring the new switch.

Connect the switchs neutral white wire to the neutral wire from the wall.

Since this is a single-pole light switch, the line and load wire placement is interchangeable.

Lastly, connect the green or copper ground wire to the light switch terminal.

Place the faceplate in position and use a screwdriver to tighten the screws and secure the faceplate.

Flip the light switch to test the connection and ensure it functions as intended.

Then, clean up any tools to complete the project.
