The goal is to remove most of the accumulated snow while leaving behind about an inch or two.

Repeat this process until you have cleared off about five to six feet from the edge.

While you work, be careful to avoid damaging thegutter system, skylights, chimneys, and vents.

Rake around skylights, but don’t rake the top of the window.

Clear off exhaust vents as much as possible to helpimprove home ventilationand reduce the risk of ice dam formation.
