Why Do Kitchen Knives Rust?
So, how and why do rust spots develop on kitchen knives?
It turns out it’s quite preventable.
This triggers a chemical process that results in iron oxide, also known as rust.
What’s the most likely culprit causing this process?
This also means avoiding the dishwasher.
Never put carbon steel knives in the dishwasher; always wash them by hand.
After drying, apply a very light layer of mineral oil over the blade to prevent rust.
For stubborn spots, use a mild abrasive likesteel woolafter soaking the knives in vinegar.
After cleaning, double-check your knife is fully dried to prevent future rusting.
